Hi~~ I couldn't read this post before (because when I saw it, I didn't have much time and it seemed a very deep post to read in a rush). Well, once again, I couldn't agree more with you. It's so good to feel I'm not the only one that has passed and felt all these emotions. The fact we share a lot of similar experiences (the time being in the fandom, the same ichiban, living in the same time and so on lol) helped me connected with all your words.
NEWS was the first group I started liking, the first one that made me feel like a fan and it all started with Tegoshi. Before being in a fandom, I was a very skeptical person (I still am tbh) who judged all those fangirls that become blind to whatever their idol does, don't matter if it was good or bad thing (by bad I mean disrespectful or irresponsible to other people), so my biggest fear was to turn out like one of them. That's why if Tegoshi does something I don't agree, I'll be the first one to scold him (as I did with some of his controversies and scandals).
As you mentioned, he is full of potential, but we can't tell for sure how he is going to use that, he does have a free spirited personality. But one thing I've noticed just when he was approaching his thirties is that he is not so impulsive as I thought (or he matured more than I've noticed on the past years). Through some of his actions, (like you said, the willing to explain things) he tries to convey what is happening with him, so I can tell there is much more than he let appear, although it can take time for him to show.
In the end, what I tell myself is that being his fan is facing this duality all the time. Knowing you are dealing with someone who can be spontenous like a kid, but who thinks deeper than he let people see. Tego doesn't suprise me anymore, but I'm slowly trying to give him some credit as time passes. Everyone has you own pace when it comes to mature and until now he hasn't done anything that makes me be totally turned off by him (we still come back to him in the end, right?). However, I'll keep my words: I'll be the first to scold him if he does something I don't agree. And I'll leave him to his own luck if it's the case. It's not a matter of trust (his private life just concerns him), but it's a matter of resposability and showing maturity when the circunstances ask for that. I hope he had learned with his past experiences. I don't think idols need to be perfect, but they should be role models when it comes to seeking personal development and inspiring other people with that.
